AUGUST 2005The thing with creativity is that once you make the conscious effort to have it be a part of your life, it never leaves you - even if you leave it for awhile.I made the decision last year to stop doing the newsletter and focusing on both Another Girl at Play and other sites I run. For over 3 years I had been working hard as a creative person, going in so many different directions and doing so many things. A decision had to be made about what I could continue on with, and more importantly what I wanted to continue on with. Updating sites, speaking about creativity, sharing everything had become too much and so I stopped and let it all sit quietly for awhile. After my year long break from it all, I discovered that to this site is still important - not only to the tens of thousands of people who visit but to me. That sharing stories of how we work, of struggles we all face and of the great ways we overcome them is something I find important enough to want to continue on with. After spending the evening re-reading all the artists profiles I've discovered that it takes awhile to really discover how you work, what you're good at and what you really should pursue and you usually don't discover this until you step back from what you've been doing. The break combined with a new focus on balance has lead me to once again write the newsletters. Perhaps not every month but more because I believe in the importance of sharing how the artists are moving forward so that we too, can move forward. The artists have been busy updating their profiles with new information and photographs, new artists have joined (and are joining) and our site redesign was just completed. So there is energy once again to the site and I hope it catches on to you. "Every now and then, go away, have a little relaxation. For when you come back to your work your judgement will be more sure; since to remain constantly at work will cause you to lose power of judgement." Leonardo Da Vinci. |
